Founded in 1973, Nantong Vocational University (NTVU) was approved by Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government and registered by China Ministry of Education as a comprehensive full-time higher educational institution in 1983, and it is one of the higher vocational institutions with the longest history in China. NTVU enrolls students from more than ten provinces in China, and it consists of 11 schools such as School of Mechanical Engineering, School of Electronic & Information Engineering, School Chemical and Biological Engineering, School of Construction Engineering, School of Automobile and Traffic Engineering, School of Art Design, School of Economic Management, School of International Cooperation & Education (School of Foreign Languages), Nantong College of Technicians, Haimen School, and School of Continuing Education.
NTVU has two campuses in Nantong and Haimen, with a total area of more than 1000 mu and a building area of more than 400,000 square meters. Now there are more than 800 faculty members and nearly 18,000 students in NTVU.
NTVU also explores the construction of modern vocational education system actively, and has set up an "overpass" for the interconnection and interoperability of secondary vocational education, higher vocational education and undergraduate education which realizes interaction and parallelism of diploma education, technical education and vocational training. NTVU is National Talent Training Base of Construction Industry, Model Training Base of Industry in Jiangsu, Jiangsu Provincial Experimental Base of Innovation of Talent Training Model in Higher Education.
Accurately aiming at regional industrial development, NTVU has developed the programs covering 50 majors in "engineering, humanities, management and arts". A team of high-quality teachers has been set up, with 51.58% of full-time professors and 51.58% of associate professors. 83.73% of young teachers achieved a master degree or a doctor degree, and 88.93% of teachers own “double qualifications”.
NTVU practices the concept of being student-oriented, and its enrollment and students’ employment have always been prosperous" situation. The employment rate of graduates has been maintained at more than 98%, and 93% of employers express satisfaction to our graduates. NTVU has been rated as Advanced Unit of Employment for College Graduates in Jiangsu Province for eight consecutive times and it is also Demonstration University of Entrepreneurship Education in Jiangsu Province.
NTVU implements "One Belt and One Road" Initiative actively and strives to expand international education. Overseas vocational education centers have been established in Indonesia and Namibia and the Namibian International Student Program has been listed in “The Harambee Prosperity Plan" in Namibia and the "Jasmine Talent Selection Program for Students to Study in Jiangsu". The Construction Technology jointly run by Dawson College in Canada and NTVU has passed the assessment by National Ministry of Education pioneeringly, and has been identified as one of the Demonstration Construction Sites of High-level Sino-foreign Cooperation Projects in Jiangsu. NTVU initiatively "goes out" of China to serve enterprises in Nantong, thus NTVU was named “Jiangsu Service Center for Overseas Chinese" and "Nantong Professional Talent Cultivation Base of Nantong Overseas Chinese".
