Jiangsu College of Tourism is a full-time public general college, located in Yangzhou (a famous historical and cultural city in China). It covers an area of 1,000 mu and a total construction area of 300,000 square meters. The college is located in the center of Yangzhou Lingang New Town, with Gaomin Temple in the north, Yangzi River in the south, ancient canal in the west, and Fengqi Lake in the east. It’s built by the rule of 5A scenic area standard and gathers the essence of Yangzhou gardens, the campus is the park, the building is the scenic spot, the atmosphere of learning is immersed by the environment, which embodies the ideal place for learning. The predecessor of the college was the Yangzhou Culinary School founded in 1959. In 2017, it was named Jiangsu College of Tourism.
Jiangsu College of Tourism is a tourism vocational college with distinctive characteristics. It has more than 12,000 students and has 9 secondary departments including The Department of Culinary Science and Technology, The Department of Tourism Management, The Department of Information Engineering, The Department of International Business, The Department of Arts and Crafts, The Department of Economics and Management, and Sports Department, The Department of Public Curriculum Foundation, The Department of Marxism. There are 34 majors closely related to tourism, including tourism management, hotel management,cooking and nutrition, and airborne services, among which are 1 demonstration site for national cultural heritage and innovation among vocational colleges, 5 provincial brand majors, 3 provincial special majors and 2 provincial modernization specialty groups. The college has 1 national skill training base, 3 provincial high-level demonstration training bases, and 1 public training base. The experimental training conditions are first-class in China and it has repeatedly been held for large-scale competitions at the municipal, provincial and national levels.
The college currently has 454 teachers, with 130 teachers of senior titles, 303 teachers with master degree, 73% of teachers with both skills and expertise, 56 national level masters, 28 provincial level masters. There are more than 20 teachers with overseas education background.
The college insists on “cultural education” and strives to create” vocational education with local characteristics” campus culture. The college has 2 provincial student associations and more than 60 student associations at school. Students won more than 40 medals in provincial innovation and entrepreneurship contests. Students graduate with high comprehensive quality, and strong technical skills, favored by employers. The employment rate has been stable at more than 98%, with graduates throughout the country and more than 40 countries and regions abroad.
The college has been awarded School with Honor in national education circle, in moral education, the first model school for education reform nationwide, the example of Harmonious School in Jiangsu Province, the exemplary training base for veteran and the major contributor in national vocational skill contests.
