The School of Humanities has always been a core focus of the university. Dating back to 1908, the school has been home to many Masters of humanities in China, including Gu Hongming, Cai Yuanpei, Zhang Yuanji, Fu Lei, Li Shutong, Huang Yanpei, etc. At the start of the 21st century the school launched programs in Chinese language and culture, which have continued to gain in popularity and are highly regarded amongst students from a diverse range of backgrounds. Further to its success in Chinese language education, English-taught courses were prepared to enable international students to deepen their understanding of China without requiring Chinese language as a prerequisite. The school is dedicated to the education of liberal arts and humanities by offering informative courses and meaningful public lectures for students from around the world.
