Founded in 1896, SJTU is one of the oldest and top research universities in China. SJTU is very strong in engineering, and ranks top 0.01% in ESI ranking. With a full range of academic disciplines in power & energy engineering, environmental science and engineering, finance and management related to low-carbon technology, SJTU has a solid foundation and extraordinary advantages in establishing the college.
Founded in 1583, the University of Edinburgh is one of the oldest and top universities in the UK and the world. Established in 2011, ECCI devotes itself to low carbon innovation and low carbon research projects, and maintains an international leading position in carbon finance, carbon management and industrial incubation.
China-UK Low Carbon College (LCC) was established by Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) with the joint efforts of the University of Edinburgh (UoE) and Shanghai Lin-gang Government. As the first domestic low carbon college, LCC aims to become a world-class innovative higher education and research institute with international influence, which provides graduate education, scientific research, executive training, and innovation and incubation. Since its establishment on 18th May 2017, LCC has been focusing on research and education in low carbon energy, low carbon environment, carbon finance, carbon management and low carbon cities. In September 2018, with the launch of the SJTU Lin-gang Campus, LCC officially settled in Lin-gang, opening a new chapter in its development. Drawing on expertise from the SJTU advanced research in energy, environment, finance and management, combined with the knowledge and experience from world-class universities such as the University of Edinburgh and University College London, LCC intends to promote the creation of a low-carbon society and contribute to the sustainable development of China and the world.
LCC provides graduates with a range of professional and transferable skills that enable them to pursue successful careers in the fields of energy and environment, including climate change consulting, carbon trading, energy-related or environment-related project development and business, policy or regulatory roles within government and NGOs.
The programs are conducted in English and delivered on-campus full time over 2.5 years.
The courses features in international educational cooperation and industrial cooperation and pays attention to the all-round development of students. In addition to the fundamental courses, there are frontier courses such as 'Business and Climate Change', 'Low Carbon Energy and Climate Change', 'Decision-Making for Low Carbon Management', etc...Students are offered opportunities to get a double master degree at the University of Edinburgh in Year 2 if they meet the entry requirements of UoE. Double degree students will be awarded Master’s degree from both SJTU and UoE.

My name is João Graça Gomes, and I joined China-UK Low Carbon College and Shanghai Jiao Tong University more than 1 year ago, to study Power Engineering. It was at the University of Lisbon, in Portugal, that I had my first meeting with Shanghai Jiao Tong. I applied only for one single university, Shanghai Jiao Tong, because in my view I would only accept to be in such a great school, where exceptional scientists like Qian Xuesen developed their work. n addition to a learning space about climate change, my college, in the past year, has become a space of communion and unity among people from diverse backgrounds, professional areas, and generations. It became a space of union of several continents and different viewpoints of the world. China-UK Low Carbon College has acted not only as an engineering graduate school but also as a real school of life.
My name is Enigbokan Titilayo Rachel and come from Nigeria. When I left my country in 2018 to pursue a Master’s degree in Low Carbon Energy Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, I had very many expectations. I faced many difficulties in Shanghai. While with the support of the international student’s office and my college friends, my academic and living requirements became much easier soon. In order to prepare us for life beyond the university, my college regularly organized trips to industrial facilities. Those trips enhanced my appreciation for the theories taught in the classroom, and motivated me to work harder. They also regularly invited business executives and renowned academics to give enlightening talks and seminars. I have learned a lot about the Chinese businessenvironment from those lectures. I have thoroughly enjoyed my stay here as a student, and look forward to facilitating greater exchanges between Nigeria and China in the future.
I come from a well known university in Italy, but the moment I found out about LCC I knew I had to continue my studies there. LCC offers a new future-proof focus on environmental chal-lenges that our modern society has to face, with the necessary international approach of cooperation and exchange.
