Tianjin University of Science & Technology is located in Tianjin, the third largest city in China. TUST was founded in 1958 with three campuses: Liulin downtown campus, TEDA campus and Tanggu campus. The total acreage is 1,070,000 square meters and the architectural acreage is 500,000 square meters. There are 18,000 students studying in the university. The lecture halls are equipped with the modern multimedia facilities. The satellite TV systems offer more than 10 programs in foreign language. The 20,600 square meters modern library houses 1,400,000 books and more than 3,000 kinds of Chinese and foreign magazines and rich database resources. The Students Activity Center and playground are ideal locations for students' extracurricular activities and exercises.
UST has a post-doctoral research work station in "Tianjin Food Processing Engineering Center". It offers 11 doctoral programs, 39 master programs, 10 professional master programs of engineering and 62 bachelor programs. There are 17 schools and departments in the university. After nearly 50 years' development, the university has formed the subject system characterized with Biotechnology & engineering, Food science & engineering, Pulp making engineering, Oceanic science & engineering, Mechanic and Electronic engineering and Packaging & Printing engineering, etc.
Among all 1,560 staff, there are 269 doctoral and master program supervisors and over 500 teachers with professorship. The TUST faculty includes the members in the State Department Degree Committee Subject Evaluation Group, state-level distinguished young and middle-aged experts, Tianjin municipal special professors and Tianjin municipal laureate experts.
In recent years, Tianjin University of Science & Technology has undertaken and completed 221 projects including State 863 Program, 11th five-year plan State support important and key projects, Huo Yingdong Education Foundation projects, State Nature Science Funds and Provincial or Ministerial science research funds, etc. TUST won 69 awards in State Science & Technology Development Awards.
TUST adopts the policy of building an international university and has established cooperation and exchange programs with over 50 universities and nstitutions worldwide.
Every year, dozens of world famous professors and scholars visit the university to deliver courses, conduct researches, and give lectures and TUST has a whole range of international cooperative education from bachelor to doctoral programs. All the TUST programs are available for international students. Over 110 international students from more than 10 countries are working on various programs. TUST exchange excellent undergraduates to study abroad every year.
TUST pays attention to developing the students' comprehensive abilities by encouraging the students to take part in the rich campus cultural activities and social practices. The students' comprehensive abilities are constantly promoted. The students won many awards in the National "Challenge Cup" College Students' Science Innovation and Self-making Plan Competition, National College Students Mathematics and English Competition.
