GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION
Zhanjiang City lies geographically at the most southern point of Chinese Mainland, facing Hainan Island and South China Sea, neighboring Guangxi Province of China and Vietnam. It is not only the unique place of the shortest way from Chinese Mainland to Southeast Asia but also one of the 14 coastal cities in China that took the earliest step to open to the world. The city connects itself conveniently with different parts of the world with its airport, railway, superhighway and seaports.
With subtropical climate, Zhanjiang has beautiful scenery and is like in spring all the year round. As a seaside city, Zhanjiang is the best city in China to enjoy abundant seafood cuisine. Moreover, the places of historical and cultural interest attract tourists from all over the world.
Lingnan Normal University (LNU) lies in the downtown of Zhanjiang, neighboring Cunjin Park and Ruiyunhu Park, which forms the unique location of “Park-Lake-University” trinity.
HISTORY
LNU is a provincial undergraduate normal university with a long history and profound culture. The university began to train teachers in 1904. Up to now it has trained over one hundred and sixty thousand graduates for all walks of life. It is a comprehensive and multidisciplinary normal university which is dedicated to teacher education. In 2007, it successfully passed the assessment with a mark of excellence for its teaching level by the Ministry of Education. In 2010, LNU was authorized as a newly-listed university for construction of master’s degree conferment by Guangdong Provincial Government.
SCHOOL SCALE
LNU has over 1,700 staffs, including 1 “Pearl River Scholar”, 550 teachers with high-professional title and nearly 1,300 teachers with master degree. At present, LNU comprises 21 schools (departments) offering 70 undergraduate teacher-training and non-teacher-training specialties covering ten disciplines: economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, agronomy, management and arts with a quite complete talent-training system. The number of the full-time undergraduates is nearly 23,000.
SCHOOL CONDITIONS
LNU has excellent school conditions. Its main campus covers nearly 68 hectares, with a total area of 580,000 square meters and fixed assets of the teaching apparatus amounting to nearly 263 million yuan. The library has a collection of 2.42 million volumes of paper books, 1,934 kinds of current Chinese and foreign journals as well as more than 1.09 million kinds of electronic periodicals. Three institutes were built respectively for education, new materials, Lingnan culture, Sinology and Guangdong Key Laboratory of Development and Education of Special Children. LNU has become a beautiful university with a dense atmosphere of academy and humanism, characterized as a garden-like seaside university in the south of China.
INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE & COOPERATION
LNU attaches great importance to international exchanges and cooperation with other organizations. Since 1998 when the university began to recruit overseas students, it has trained over nearly 1,000 long-term and short-term overseas students. It has developed close cooperative relationships with more than 80 universities and educational institutions in countries and regions such as Japan, the United Kingdom, Thailand, South Korea, Indonesia, the United States, Canada, Vietnam, Belarus, Ukraine, Russia, Australia, Finland, Malaysia, Philippines, Ireland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. There are frequent international academic exchanges, professional cooperations, educational trainings, teachers’ mutual employment and students’ cross-cultural exchanges with foreign organizations. In 2017, LNU and the Institute of Philosophy of National Academy of Science, Belarus jointly established the "Sino-Belarusian Research Center of Philosophy and Culture". The cooperative undergraduate education program of Cuisine and Nutrition Education between LNU and Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology, Ireland (GMIT) was approved by the Ministry of Education in 2019. LNU and Belarusian State University of Physical Culture (BSUPC) jointly established Confucius Institute.
STUDYING & LIVING FACILITIES
LNU is well-equipped with all kinds of studying and living facilities to meet students’ needs. There is a large-scale library, gymnasium, fitness center, swimming pool, playground, courts for basketball, tennis and badminton, dining centers, clinic, bank, post office and supermarket. As for accommodation, generally, two to four students share a room, which is equipped with a washroom, a hot water bathroom, a water dispenser, an air conditioner and a washing machine. Every student has a wardrobe and a desk set for his/her computer and books. Besides, the broadband network is also available in dormitories.
