Guangxi University, established in 1928, is a regional comprehensive teaching and research university with a long history. It is a national key university in the "211 Project" jointly supported and constructed by the Ministry of Education and Guangxi Regional Government. It has nine disciplines of philosophy, economics, law, liberal arts, science, engineering, agriculture, management and education. The first president was Dr. Ma Junwu, a prominent educator and scientist in China.
Guangxi University recruits students from 27 provinces and municipalities in the country. At the end of 2005, it had a total enrollment of 19,879 full-time undergraduates, 181 doctoral students and 4,145 master's degree students. In addition, there were 281 international students and 28,000 adult students of continuing education. The university has 3,722 faculty and staff members. Among those, 1,867 are faculty members, among whom there is one professor in the "Cheung Kong Scholar Reward Program", 324 are full professors, 667 are associate professors, 55 are doctoral program supervisors.
he university has signed agreements of cooperation and exchange with 100 higher education institutions from 28 countries and regions, including the United States, Britain, Germany, Canada and Japan. Up to now, over 500 faculty members have been abroad for study, research and teaching, and at the same time, the university has invited large numbers of international experts and scholars to teach, lecture and conduct research here. Guangxi University is one of the first 66 universities in China certified by Ministry of Education to recruit international students. Since 1962, the university has trained undergraduates and graduates students for nearly 40 countries.
